Overview
Hoeamsa Temple, the largest temple of the late Goryeo and early Joseon dynasties, has deep ties to the Joseon royal family. Although only the site remains today, its historical value has been recognized, leading to its selection for the 2025 UNESCO World Heritage tentative list. This historical and cultural festival allows visitors to heal their minds and bodies and learn about its historical significance, much like King Taejo Yi Seong-gye, who practiced asceticism at Hoeamsa. The festival kicks off with the 'King Taejo Yi Seong-gye Royal Procession' and the 'Yangju Magistrate Welcome Yard' performance, inspired by records of royal processions in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty. Visitors can also enjoy and learn about the Hoeamsa Temple site through interactive programs such as 'Finding the 8 Secrets of Hoeamsa Temple Site' and 'Ring the Bronze Bell.' Additionally, a variety of programs are available, including special intangible heritage performances, temple food lectures, and healing concerts.
