Overview
The Danjong Cultural Festival is a representative local cultural festival in Yeongwol that sublimates the sorrowful spirit of King Danjong, the 6th king of the Joseon Dynasty, and the souls of his loyal subjects into a festival. Started in 1967 under the name "Danjongje," the festival was renamed "Danjong Cultural Festival" in 1990 at the 24th event and has since been reaching out to visitors with various experiences. The 58th Danjong Cultural Festival will be held for three days from April 24 (Fri) to 26 (Sun), 2026, in Yeongwol, where Jangneung, the royal tomb of King Danjong, is located. This year's Danjong Cultural Festival will feature a variety of events, including the reenactment of King Danjong's state funeral, the Danjong ancestral rite, the Queen Jeongsun pageant, the arrowroot rope tug-of-war, hands-on activities, participatory events, and performances.
