Overview
The Sejong Nakhwa Festival is a festival that modernly reinterprets traditional culture based on the city's intangible heritage, 'Sejong Buddhist Nakhwa-beop (designated on Feb. 13, 2024).' It is a special nighttime tourism festival where the nature of the urban lake park harmonizes with the city landscape. When Nakhwa-bong (fire sticks) are hung on tree branches, poles, or ropes and lit, the embers scatter like flower petals with a crackling sound, beautifully coloring the night forest. Nakhwa originated from our unique traditional rituals performed during Buddhist lantern festivals, the first full moon of the lunar year, Dano, and the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month to drive away negative energy and pray for good fortune. Visitors can enjoy the festival in various ways, such as experiencing 'fire-gazing' (bul-meong) where the embers scatter from the Nakhwa-bong hanging on pine trees, or by strolling along the park's walking paths.
