Jung-gu, Seoul, is hosting the 2026 Yi Sun-sin Festival, a special event commemorating the birthday of Admiral Yi Sun-sin while reflecting on the historical identity of his birthplace. In Jung-gu, where the wisdom and courage of Yi Sun-sin began, a brilliant birthday celebration unfolds where everyone becomes a protagonist, featuring a giant birthday cake adorned with congratulatory messages from 481 people. This festival is composed of four zones where visitors can go beyond mere observation and become active participants. First, at 'Sunsin ROCK', visitors are greeted by the magnificent parade of the Navy Honor Guard and the thrilling performances of the Navy Public Relations Band. Alongside this, the 'Iron Man Yi Sun-sin' competition, led by local residents, and various stage performances continue throughout the event. The food zone, 'Sunsin FIELD', offers a rich culinary experience with 20 of the most representative restaurants in Jung-gu, Seoul. 'Sunsin MARKET' is a flea market featuring local merchants and artists, where you can find various merchandise related to Admiral Yi Sun-sin. Finally, 'Sunsin PLAY' is an experiential playground themed around the past, present, and future. From making 'Sunsin Boys' paper gat (traditional hats) and personalized 'Nanjung Ilgi' (War Diary) pop-up books, to traditional calligraphy and play experiences, as well as a Roblox Yi Sun-sin birthday party, VR horseback riding, and turtle ship puzzle making, the festival is packed with programs that people of all ages can enjoy with their families. Jung-gu invites all citizens to this festival of harmony to celebrate the birth of Admiral Yi Sun-sin through these diverse programs that satisfy all five senses.
