Overview
Hongseong is the birthplace of many great figures: General Choe Yeong, a renowned commander of the late Goryeo Dynasty who remained loyal to the end; Seong Sam-mun, who stood against injustice with unwavering integrity; Han Yong-un, one of the 33 national representatives who resisted Japanese colonial rule; General Kim Jwa-jin, who led the victory at the Battle of Cheongsan-ri; Han Seong-jun, a master of traditional Korean dance and the origin of Korean dance; and Lee Ung-no, a contemporary artist more famous abroad. As a town of historical figures, Hongseong selects a key figure each year and hosts various programs such as hands-on experiences, performances, and exhibitions based on their achievements and anecdotes. It is the nation's premier edutainment festival where you can learn about the historical figures produced by Hongseong while enjoying the site. Come visit the Hongseong Historical Figures Festival, held in conjunction with Children's Day, for plenty of fun activities.
